And I think more of it has to do with melodies then lyrics. I think Taylor showed her talent from early on. Taylor has done this, but I always have to ask "was it by accident" because she does have such a tendancy for her lyrics to just run on and on and on. But I am a great believer in what Paul McCartney said about "how much gets left in the waste basket" when trying to create great song. and that comes up with really great material. ![]() I believe in a very fluid way of lyric writing where "truth" sort of spills out here and there. I actually disagree with more of what the writer says than I agree with. ^ I feel like this was written by someone who was already convinced of their fandom and went to lengths to try to tell me why she is amazing! The song rises to an emotional victory, as Swift goes from paying witness to "all the girls that you've run dry (that) have tired, lifeless eyes 'cause you've burned them out" to being the one who "took your matches before fire could catch me, so don't look now: I'm shining like fireworks over your sad, empty town." Compare this to the other great fireworks song of 2010, Katy Perry's, and there is simply no pyromaniacal contest. It's a ballad that creates the illusion of the artist having vomited onto the page-for those of us who like that sort of thing-but actually belies a severe level of craft beneath the bile. Never mind the lucky stroke that apparently had the rock star who used and discarded Swift being a guy really named John Swift does like her literalism, so she probably wouldn't written a public dear-John letter to a Tom, Dick, or (even) Harry. (Hyperbole intended.) This was Dear John, a slow, epic-length missive to a love-'em-young-and-leave-'em type that was jaw-dropping in its vulnerability and rage. 'Speak Now' also incidentally included the most searing, stark, boldly confessional song by a major artist since John Lennon's Cold Turkey. ![]() But is finding out whether All Too Well was about Jake or Harry that terribly different than the thrill of figuring out whether Dylan's It Ain't Me, Babe was about Suzi or Joan, but with Google taking the place of waiting years for a biography? It may seem peculiar to the 21st century that we can confirm who the significant others in Swift's songs are by picking out lyrical details about eye colors or fire signs or scarves and checking them against her exes. But the specificity of the bridge makes the universality of chorus more meaningful, even if the unstable relationship you're being reminded of by the song didn't involve a visit to the ER. When Swift interrupts Out of the Woods to mention "Twenty stitches in a hospital room/Remember when you hit the brakes too soon," that's about as un-Brill as Bruce talking about Crazy Janey and Greaser Lake. ![]() have faith that, whatever is lost in relatability by including something specifically autobiographical is a gain for fans who know that that weird minutiae confirms the rest of the emotions as authentic. If you're writing by the books, you learn early on not to include random asides that throw listeners out of the commonality of the lyric. Where Swift is most like the great confessional rock writers, and least like the Brill Building set, is in her propensity to fill her songs with seemingly stray details. ![]() ![]() ![]() Some characters’ recovery moves aren’t strong enough to break the blocks. They can also set down a row parallel to the stage to cut off the bottom of the ledge and force foes to break the blocks with their recovery. A short column of blocks at the ledge forces opponents to recover low and endure a mixup situation to get back on stage. While not the best option available, Steve players will sometimes use blocks to ledge guard. Most are exclusive to mid-range characters, further emphasizing their strength in the matchup. Certain moves with extended hitboxes also connect with Steve through the blocks simultaneously. strategy and jump up underneath them to destroy them with your head. Use safe, ranged attacks to destroy them so Steve can’t punish you after. Fortunately, blocks will crumble if hit by enough melee attacks. Still, going around the blocks makes your attack pattern too obvious. Even a Charge Shot from Samus on full blast isn’t enough to consistently get rid of them. Blocks can be used in both recovery and ledge guarding, but they are most helpful for protecting Steve while he mines.īlocks are surprisingly sturdy against projectiles. For example, stone blocks will last longer and are more durable to enemy attacks than wooden blocks. These blocks will linger for a short time before disappearing, and their duration depends on the material used to craft them. True to his Minecraft origins, Steve is able to place up to eight cubic blocks at a time on stage. Staying at mid-range is the best approach for keeping Steve players hesitant to mine and unable to scrap in close. Steve’s blocks also make zoning a rather futile way of stopping him from mining. You can destroy the crafting table, but another will respawn shortly after. This is easier said than done since Steve can summon the table to his location with just a small amount of resources. The best way to do this is to keep him away from the crafting table where he retrieves all his tools. If you have to get in closer, focus on keeping Steve from upgrading his weapons. Although his primary win condition is very effective, Steve doesn’t have a lot of options for a Plan B. If you’re able to hit him while he’s mining AND stay away from his combos, your opponent will have to switch up their entire gameplan. If you play a character that thrives in mid-range, you can force the fight outside of Steve’s comfort zone. Outside of his fishing pole grab, he has virtually no tools that help him here. The safest way to keep Steve from mining is to stay threatening in the mid-range. Don’t be surprised if you rush Steve down only to get beat up yourself in return. Thanks to a very short jump, Steve can turn almost any juggle into a multi-hit combo. Many of his attacks are fast with little end lag and have no clear audio cues that telegraph them to opponents. But be warned - Steve is no pushover in close quarters. The simple answer is to just rush him down and not give him any moment to breathe. Minecart’s (Side B) speed and power also depends on the kind of resources available.įiguring out how to stop Steve from mining is trickier than it looks. ![]() For example, at least 50 resource points are required to use TNT (Down B). Steve obviously needs resources to build blocks, but he must also stay stocked up for certain attacks that involve foreign objects. Not only is this important for upgrading weapons, tools, and blocks, but it also ensures that he can use his full toolkit. Tip #1: Slow down productionĪs soon as a game starts, the first thing almost every Steve player will do is start mining. While he is certainly a lot to deal with, we’re here to help you out with the best tips for fighting against Steve. With Steve seeing increased representation as offline events return, it's become essential to learn the matchup. ![]() Others merely hate his unexciting playstyle and would rather see another character on screen. Thanks to his ability to switch from playing the lame game to all-out aggro, many believe Steve to be broken in the current meta. His combo game is wildly efficient and his tilts and smash attacks gain deceptive power. Furthermore, he becomes a nightmare up close once he gains access to Gold or Diamond weapons. This campy playstyle forces opponents to chase Steve around while he is mining since he can shut down zoners with blocks. When used in the air, he will place Minecraft blocks that help wall off parts of the stage. While grounded, Steve will mine for materials he can use to craft weapons and other tools that aid in combat. Neutral B is the leading cause of outrage. With a moveset inspired by Minecraft, it sometimes seems like he is playing another game entirely. Along with his costume swaps - Alex, Zombie, and Enderman - Steve plays Smash unlike any other fighter. And by that we mean he’s the source of frustration for countless players. Steve is all the rage in Super Smash Bros. ![]() ![]() When the agent is obvious or your readers really don’t need to know who it is ‘Over 100 contaminants have been dumped into the river.’ Passive voice is appropriate because we don’t know who has done this. In many cases, the subjects translated the false cognate by sound, but then added a word or words to the translation, e.g., the Hebrew academai (college graduate) became the English “with academic training.” When this happened, we considered the translation to be correct, based on the rationale that the additional words are evidence that the subject recognized that the Hebrew word was a false cognate.Title: author: publisher: isbn10 | asin: print isbn13: ebook isbn13: language: subject publication date: lcc: ddc: subject: To correctly translate a false cognate, the subject must translate the word by meaning and not by sound. Translation students are encouraged to make their text conform to the norms of TL syntax and usage, and this often includes changing parts of speech. When the subject chose to translate a true cognate into a cognate form but changed the part of speech, we considered the translation to be a cognate. The underlying assumption here is that the first solution that comes to mind is the one closest to the Hebrew, and that any other translation – even an etymologically related one – is evidence of further processing, i.e., evidence that the ready-made equivalent was considered and rejected. If the subject chose a word that was similar but not identical to the closest English equivalent, e.g., “reformation” instead of “reform” for the Hebrew reforma, we considered the translation to be noncognate.
